The Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo/Black Watch Association(Atlantic)Pipes & Drums was
formed in 2001 as the house band for
The Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo(RNSIT) in Halifax Nova Scotia.

Producer/Director Ian Fraser had suggested the formation of a new band, composed of
volunteers from all over the Maritimes, who would gather periodically for practice and be available
for the Tattoo.
The band would be funded by the Tattoo Society, and sponsored by
the Black Watch Association in Atlantic Canada.

Tattoo 2002 saw the new band on the floor for the first time.
The original plan expected no more than 15 volunteers in the first year;
Interest was much higher, and 28 volunteers under the direction
of Pipe Major Jim Patterson formed the nucleus of all the pipes and drums on the floor.

The new band participates in all productions of the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo, and
has travelled to Breda, Netherlands to play in De Nationale Taptoe (Dutch National Tattoo). It has
participated in all pipe music scenes of the RNSIT, and was featured along with the Pipes and
Drums of the Black Watch (RHR) of Canada from Montreal in the Black Watch scene which
celebrated the 140th anniversary of the Black Watch.

2008 saw the creation of the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo Foundation.
Funding for the Tattoo Pipes & Drums, now falls under the umbrella of the Foundation.

This year, 2008, the band is taking a new direction and becoming not only the RNSIT Pipes and
Drums, but also a full performing band.  We will be doing parades, concerts etc. as they become
available.  The band is now under the direction of P/M R.A. Stobbs,CD2
